Client Introduction

On 2001 a well-known Japan Electronic group set up its R&D center in British to work on next generation communication products. In the past the Japanese company focuses on mobile and related communication business in its domestic market, and has outstanding performance in European markets. The company designed serial mobile terminals for Vodafone, the leading Europe telecom company, with wild acclaim. Anyway it's major market is Japan, and up to day it has become one of the biggest mobile brand in Japan.

The Story

China is the biggest consumer electronic market of Asia, and 3G network is being built. The company wants to enter Chinese market to share the great chance here. So it chooses Hong Kong as the breakthrough point, where has mature 3G network, to start this adventure.

VSC has branch in Shenzhen, the city which is so close to Hong Kong but separated by a river. And VSC has strong technical capability and rich experience with 20 years history. Because of this the company picked VSC to set up a testing team to test their products and systems in Hong Kong. VISA for Hong Kong is due in 7 days. The project team managed to assign enough resource for the onsite testing by allocating internal resource efficiently. Three months later the project was delivered successfully and customer's 3G terminal enters market brilliantly.

Since then we have more and more cooperation with the client. To improve the communication between the client and project team, three team members were invited to London for two months training to fresh their language skill as well as testing skills, and get acquaintance with client's engineers. Just in one year the team finished testing of eight different types of mobiles to help client's product enter Chinese market.

Business Challenge

The major challenge is localization. Development team is in Japan and Europe, but the target market is China. Many issues need to be taken care of , such as language translation, Chinese people’s using habit, compatibility with China mobile network, etc. Each of these problems could ruin the product.

Bug management
VSC has complete bug management system to track bugs from birth to death, and could produce reports to help client diagnose.
Testing environment
Our test is to simulate real terminal environment, so we use Chinese commercial communication network and SIM card, which makes our testing result very solid. When we find issues we could record related data info and logs, to provide real and objective information to client's engineer team, which is important for further diagnose and bug fixing.
